Tour Overview

This is a fantastic tour for families as well as having easy mobility requirements & activities suitable for all ages & we can organise wheelchair accessible transportation if required. Enjoy some of the local classic attractions & icons that Hobart has near at hand & in the surrounds over a well-planned day.

Getting the chance for a great picture at the top of Mt Wellington is always a fantastic way to begin the day, but we can’t always get the weather gods to obey, so sometimes it is the luck of the draw. Did you know that Charles Darwin climbed the mountain? or that they used to take ice from the top to help make ice-cream for the Hobart confectioners? or that the Worlds Hardest Half Marathon runs up its slope?

Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary is a great place for the family & children where you can get up close & personal with the Kangaroos+ feed them, Wombats, Koala’s & of course the Tasmanian Devil (no devil patting unfortunately!!). Bonorong is a Sanctuary so they don’t operate as a zoo & they only now deal with local wildlife & also run the first Tasmanian Wildlife Hospital in Tasmania.

Koala. The rockstars of the bush. Their pretty chilled just doing their thing & they dont mind if you give them a little pat.

We then make our way to Richmond Village, a fantastic local sandstone timestamp of early colonial life, especially when we consider that they have the oldest built convict bridge 1823, oldest currently operating Catholic Church 1836 & the oldest convict-built Goal 1825 in Australia.

Sweets & Treats Lolly Shop at Richmond Village. For the sweet tooths. We catch mum & dad in here too!!

There are plenty of art, craft & bric-brac shops at Richmond Village, all within a short walk of the town center.

The village itself comes alive on the weekends & is a haven for bric-brac shops, arts & crafts, gourmet delicatessens & of course the famous sweets & treats lolly shop. There are plenty of lunch options (at guests own expense) which your guide will be happy to discuss with you as you enter the village. Your time here is self-guided, however the coach will do a full loop around the village so that you are able to get you bearings, with the guide pointing out the various landmarks for reference.

Departing in the afternoon from Richmond Village, we make our way back towards Hobart, but not before we stop at a local winery for a tasting & some cheese. We have such beautiful cool climate wine here in Tasmania, not to mention award winning cheese & we would love to share some with you, even if this isn’t a fully guided wine tour. Relax & enjoy the afternoon sunshine!!

Pooley Wines - Cellar Door. The pooley family were some of the earliest to see the potential of the Coal River Valley, & now produce standout wines with a special focus on Riesling. But some damn good Pinot Noir too!!
