We take you to a hidden urban winery to experience some of the best cool climate varieties that we have like Riesling & Pinot Noir + being able to inside a real working winery with empty & filled barrels, ferments & leftover grape pomace.
Glaetzer-Dixon Family Winemakers are acknowledged as being one of the best producers currently in Tasmania especially winning a Jimmy Watson Trophy which was the first ever won in Tasmanian history for their Mon Pere Shiraz, a cool climate classic!!
Moving our wine journey to Derwent Estate means that we get to try some of the best chardonnay currently in Australia, with their top range named Calcaire - calcareous / limestone.
What do the top wine regions of the world have - exactly this limestone soil structure, so we think that they can then make a pretty good line-up, and you can drink them in a 1820’s original thick walled Tasmanian house + when its cold they have a real woodfire going so that you can relax in a warm & comfortable environment with heritage furniture.
Or on hot days the veranda is perfect to sit & relax with scenic views of the Derwent River. Did you hear any ghost’s?
Stefano Lubiana Vineyard & Cellar Door - Derwent Valley: Family Owned & Operated
If biodynamic wines float your boat, then Stefano Lubiana is a great place to visit because that’s exactly how they produce their wines. They are pretty good to, with them not wanting to or needing to shout it from a rooftop, they just get on & make them.
So we warn you that some wines will challenge some assumptions that you have, but perhaps that’s a good thing.
Eleventh Order Bar & Brewery - Derwent Valley: Family Owned & Operated
Afterwards, just because we love beer too, we take you to the Eleventh Order Bar & Brewery to have a little beer tasting, with the Eleventh Order being one of the best avant garde producers of beer in Tasmania, plus it’s in New Norfolk - the third oldest settlement in Tasmania, and don’t worry - we won’t leave you at the New Norfolk Insane Asylum (or it depends on how much you have had to drink ;).
