Tasmanian produces many things that are wine based. Most people know about the Pinot Noir or the Riesling etc, but what about the heavier reds? Like Nocton Estates Merlot, commonly among the best that there is in Tasmania with the Coal River Valley being perfect for the growing of bigger & heavier reds.
Pooley Family Wines - Coal River Valley (Richmond): Family Owned & Operated + 5 wines tasted
Coupled with some of the best local Pinot Noir & Riesling from Pooley Wines who were some of the people to originally plant in the Coal River Valley, we have a top line-up of wine that shows off their single vineyard qualities exceptionally well, they even have the dirt from both on the wall to prove it!! Also, the terroir shines through more when paired with a local Wicked Cheese Producer board inside their early 1800’s sandstone cellar door.
Wicked Cheese - Coal River Valley (Richmond): Family Owned & Operated + tastings at your leisure
With a little stop at Wicked Cheese factory afterwards, you will have a chance to taste the other cheeses that they make that we don’t get to try at Pooley Wines & they are in themselves a fantastic delicatessen - with a great selection of local produce for you to purchase to take home with chocolates, cured meats, preserves & relishes to name a few.
Institut Polaire - Hobart: Small Owner Operators + 3 gins or 3 Pinot Noirs tasted
Gin is really where all the craze is at the moment, although whisky is outstanding & we love it, but have you had it as textures of gin or a speciality smoked cocktail at Institut Polaire, one of the best new avant garde bars in Hobart. You can gin flight, wine flight, cocktail or just relax at your leisure! A great place for an aperitif to begin the rest of the night or stay on & have dinner with a unique & interesting local menu of delicacies like abalone. Let’s get onboard that.
